Katie Schiavone, Program Coordinator
As an undergraduate, Katie Schiavone was inspired to become a teacher through her work as a volunteer tutor at Casa de la Esperanza which served the families of migrant farm workers. Before beginning her teaching career, she worked in marketing for Janus and General Electric. Her bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder is in International Affairs. She received her teaching credential and M. Ed. in Technology Leadership from Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California. The subject of her thesis was virtual field trips. Katie taught in middle school in San Mateo and Palo Alto before joining The Friendship Club in 2006. Katie works with our middle school girls.
Denise Tambasco, Enrichment Liaison
Denise recently completed her student teaching at Lyman Gilmore Middle School in Grass Valley where she taught seventh grade science and pre-algebra. She is a credentialed biology teacher. Denise earned her B. S. in biology with a minor in English literature from Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii. She has received her M. Ed. from National University in Cross Cultural Education with Specialization in Best Practices. The thesis subject was strategies for implementing note taking practices in the classroom. Denise was raised in Nevada County and is a graduate of Nevada Union High School. Denise runs the mentor and tutor programs.
